Ivan Mendoza lives here In Santa Rosa, California (95402).
His problems started with a water exposure to his iPod which he thought he got away with. Then over time a couple of things started to develop. This happens frequently when "the iPod still seems to work" after a water exposure. If you don't get the moisture out and the device treated, lead oxide corrosion is a certainty in the future and it will kill the device.

I was able to get his back working again, and it only required replacing the drive.

For Ivan it was $40 labor and $60 for the hard drive.

Fixed - Total cost $100.

Phillip Follansbee emailed me on July 30th from Old Orchard Beach, Maine (04064).
The message read, "This is probably not the first you have heard of an i-pod falling into a pool. I clean pools at a local campground and this morning I fell in... while listening to my ipod. I had it in a case and immediately took it out and put it on top of the heater for the pool which stays around 120 F to see if some of the moisture would come out. I have not tried turning it on yet. I am sending it to you today and would like to pay with paypal. Is this the e-mail that I use with PayPal payments? It is a 6g 80gig."

He sent the $40 for the labor. It arrived a few days later.

I was able to get his 6th Gen working again but it needed a new LCD and a replacement battery. These are two parts that are really susceptible to water immersion damage, because the LCD (and the battery) remain positively charged from the battery to the back light and that acts as an anode which promotes corrosion.

The LCD was $41 and the battery was $23, which he also PayPal'd in.

Fixed - Total cost $64.

I got a call from Tristan Johnson who works at MoreWineMaking.com.
(He actually called from work in Concord, California 94518). We talked about his iPod and my wine making. Remember I am an ardent amateur wine maker, who was given the highest honor as an amateur in 2007 when I was awarded the Best of Show for Red Wine at the Orange County Wine Competition. Tristan had dropped his iPod and SHATTERED the internal hard drive. You could actually hear the broken pieces rattle in it.

I suggested that replace the 60GB drive with a 30GB because the part was more affordable ($60 instead $80) and get a new battery (which he needed anyway) and a new slimmer backplate.

The iPod arrived a few days later and I had the repair done within a day. Total cost for drive, battery, backplate, labor and return shipping was $120

Fixed - Total cost $120.
