Ruben Gutierrez sent me his 4th Gen iPod from San Diego, California.
He had a common problem, his scroll wheel wouldn't work and needed replacement.
I was able to get the repair finished by the next day.
The scroll wheel was $20 and the labor with return shipping was $40 for a total of $60.
As you can see all of songs are intact.
Fixed - Total cost $60.

Danny Snyder called from Berkeley, California
to discuss the problems he was having with his 4th Generation Photo iPod. They all sounded like a failed logic board and he sent it up here to Santa Rosa.
Once it had arrived I took it apart to check all the parts and make sure of my initial diagnosis but I was right. In a world where all the hard Drives from this period are justifiably failing it was his logic board.
We needed to wait for a couple of weeks for a good cadaver donor to present with bigger problems. When they walked into the clinic I explained the gravity of the case to their relation and they signed the donor organ card so I could reuse the logic board. That donor family is in Merced where Steve Perry the singer from Journey came from.
The logic board was $35 and the labor/return shipping was $40 so he got his iPod back and
running with his own still on it for $75
Fixed - Total cost $75.

David Lander called me from Floyd, Virginia
to discuss the problem he was having with his 5th Gen Video iPod. There were several. The chief problem was hearing in one ear only, another was no feel of "detent" in the select button and the last was song skipping.
The headphone problem I deal with all the time. It needed a new jack because the iPod had been dropped on the earbud with it plugged in. There is a rubber pad beneath the select button that sometimes shifts which is partly responsible for the "just pressed" button feel. I told him while it was here I would reseat that pad.
He also has problems with "freezes", this is a consequence of data corruption or a failing hard drive. The freeze is the result of an over-filled drive and slow data corruption. It needs to have the drive reformatted through a restore and then be re-sync'd.
The headphone jack was $26 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $66.
