Barabra Creedon called me from San Bruno, California
about two items she had in her purse when here coffee commuter mug opened and spilled all over them... actually she may have said they were floating in her purse. One was a 16GB iPod Touch (which is how she found me) and the other was her Canon digital camera.
Camera's I repair but the fee is higher... $60 because each of them obligates me to learn a new device to take apart and work on. There has never been two of the same camera model brought to me. I was not able to get her camera going. There was fairly severe water damage in separate areas of the camera. I wound up refunding $30 to her because I wasn't able to make the camera work.
In the case of her iPod Touch... I was been able to get all but one important aspect to work, which is the LCD backlight and I don't see any reason or corrosion that would keep it from working.
I tried replacing that part with another and the result is the same so it has to do with the logic board or it's daughter card.
So the iPod has a dim screen with slightly less dim information on it. It does hold a charge. It will work portably, her files were still on it.
It would be fine for playing music on, or using it as a source for a docking station, but
she will never be able to look at photos or videos on it without that back light.
I refunded $20 of the $40 she for it.

Dearon Ponossian emailed me from Monroe, New York.
He dropped his 5th Generation iPod in the toilet... but "just for a few seconds". That was on Tuesday November 18th 2008. In his own way he tried to remedy things. He opened the device up, wiped the water out, then left it open under lamp, blow dried it and did the "buried it in a sack of uncooked rice" (which is an urban myth that wastes time and the possibility of getting the iPod to ever work again).
It arrived on November 26th 2008 and I was able to get it all working except the scroll wheel. I was out of Grey scroll wheels so I gave his iPod a unique identity by putting a Black one on.
The scroll wheel was $16 and labor/return shipping was $40. Here is his unique iPod.
Fixed - Total cost $56.

Kelly Balfour sent her non-working 6th Generation 80GB iPod in from League City, Texas
saying,
"the story is that m daughter got some water in it, like she took a straw and drizzled water in between it and the plastic case it was in...and I think some seeped inside."
It arrived on November 26th 2008 and later that day I had it all working perfectly again.
The total cost was $40 for the labor and return shipping back to her.
Fixed - Total cost $40.
