I got a phone call from Laurel Duffy who lives here in Santa Rosa, California.
She believed she had a 1st Gen iPod that was having problems, which she had replaced with an iPhone.

In fact she had a 3rd gen iPod and she was right the hard drive in it was going south fast. She is also a Mac user which some of the tools I might use for a data extraction if were formatted FAT32 ( I encourage MAc users to format their iPod for Windows, it allows a broader range of possibilities in terms taking "free" music from a friend and adding it permanently to your own iTunes music collection). With an iPod formatted FAT32 I can also use two or three other drive utilites.

Her 3rd Gen had 1402 songs on it she wanted off, I was able to recover only 700 of them before the drive became unreadable.

Even though this took about 7 hours over two days, she paid the standard labor fee of just $40 for the data extraction.

Tiffanee Smith emailed me from Chicago, Illinois
one night late and the message read,

"Hi, I found your website online. My mother washed my IPod in with the clothes. It went through the entire wash, rinse, spin cycle. This happened yesterday afternoon. The IPod has water in the screen and does not cut on. I live in Chicago and am hoping I have time to send this to you tomorrow morning. Is it too late? Do I have to send it Express? (I have limited funds, but if needed I guess I'll have to). Please help me!"

I sent her instructions on the process and arrived on November 23rd 2008. Hers was among the 3 out of 8 that arrive here post-water immersion that require having their LCD replaced.

I was able to get her iPod working again two days later. The LCD was $33 and labor including return shipping was $40

Fixed - Total cost $73.

Gretchen Smith from Raleigh, North Carolina
had a mishap with her iPod and found me on the internet. As she explained it, "Frank-

This iPod was dropped into a toilet at work while it was flushing. It was retrieved within two seconds, but alas! It was too late. Because I was panicking and wanted to know if it was ruined, I tried several times to turn it on before realizing that trying to send electricity through it was a bad idea. I got out as much water as I could by using a flinging motion, then I kept it in a bowl of rice - someone on-line had suggested this { which I know to be a crock as far as technique - frank} and while I figured it wouldn't help much, I thought it at least wouldn't hurt, that it would probably provide a buffer from the house's humidity, and would maybe even help to absorb some of the water should it evaporate."

It arrived on November 9th and I wen to work. Two days later I had everything working except the logic board.

The logic board was $100 and labor/return shipping was $40

Fixed - Total cost $140.
