Jim Steffen sent his iPod in from Chicago, Illinois.
His 4th Gen Black and White had a problem with its scroll wheel and also needed a new battery.
It a couple of days to fix his because I had run out of batteries for his model and my supplier was between deliveries themselves so it was actually a 4 day wait... which was very uncommon.
Jim, like me listens to house/trance music so we had something to share on this subject. I am actually going to see Tiesto in his only US performance date on May 24/25th in San Francisco.
I cost Jim $20 for the scroll wheel and $10 for the battery. Labor with return shipping was $40 bringing his iPod to $70.
Fixed - Total cost $70.

Carlos Mercado sent his 5th Gen Video iPod up from Los Angeles, California
to get his hard drive replaced. He bought one of the original 60GB models but now wanted to replace and upgrade it to an 80GB drive which would also fit in that same thick case.
He sent it with $140 in cash, so there was $100 for the drive and $40 for labor/return shipping.
When I actually got his system opened and began checking things, I discovered that his drive had failed, but also when the drive went it also damaged the logic board. Repairing his system would then cost him $100 + $90 + $40 or $230.
I advised him under the circumstances, it would be better to send him back the iPod with a refund of all but $20 so he could actually buy a new one. He is able to trade in his seriously broken iPod for $25 a new at an Apple store, so there was no real out of pocket expense to learn the depth of damage to his device.

Vijay Khare called me from work in Danville, California to discuss what could be wrong with his 5th Generation video iPod.
After a moment of two I realized he had damaged the logic board by plugging it into a bad car adapter or "iHome". He shipped it in from Danville California and I got it a day later.
He used PayPal to send in the $130 ($90 for the logic board and $40 return shipping/labor) once I was able to confirm the diagnosis.
I got the board replaced and it was shipped back to him the next day.
Fixed - Total cost $130.
