Marianne Oliver found me on the internet and called me from her work.
She is a postmaster in a small one person post office in Robbins, California. About 10 weeks before she called me she accidentally put her son's Blue 8GB Nano 4th Gen through the washing machine. This happens to people all the time and I always reassure them that accidents will happen through the rest of your life, this is a small one.
I emailed to Marianne instructions to send it in and it was fairly easy for her to do so... since she goes to the post office every day ;)
Once it arrived I went through it *and* was actually able to get it to work. It did require a new LCD screen which is a $33 part, but the iPod works perfectly now.
Total cost to get her son's $150 iPod back and working *even though it had nearly 3 months* was $73
Fixed - Total cost $73.

Forest Fein is a psychology student at Sonoma State University who called me from Sebastopol
where he lives about his 160GB 6th Gen video iPod. He wanted to know if it was really fixable and then set up and appointment. He had hearing from just the left side ear bud. If you've read a few of these stories, you know I've fixed this... about a millions times ;)
He brought it by the next day and left it off. An hour later he returned and I had it ready for him.
The headphone jack part was $35 and labor was $40 but for the $75 he got back his $350 iPod working perfectly and like new.
Fixed - Total cost $75.

John Marshall called me from his work at Mesa Boogie in Petaluma, California.
They make tube based electric guitar amplifiers there. "Mesa" was one of the first to get back into making tube based amplifiers in the late 1970's when everyone else (think Gallien-Kruger) was finding their way into solid state amps. The soldi state amps didn't have tubes burning out and were considered more reliable. The type odf tube used is a "Triode" and the tubes operate like a transistor, there is a current flow from anode to cathode (conventional current not electron current) that is throttled by a control leg or gate.
Now don't think I didn't make fun of a guy named "Marshall" working at Mesa Boogie. But I guess he's lucky his last name isn't "HiWatt", Ampeg" or "Kustom". I may have mentioned I used to play in a garage band. Many of the guys in my band went on to become quite famous so I know these things...
Anyway.... John's 6ht Gen video iPod needed to have the battery replaced. He had overcharged it one time too many. He had his fellow worker Tien Lawrence bring it by and pick it up since he lives 5 blocks from me.
This is Tien picking it up. The battery was $19 and labor was $40. People in the music industry are happy.
Fixed - Total cost $59.
