Lauren Carri called from Hawaii

where she was celebrating Thanksgiving with her family. She had dropped her iPod water while getting ready to go somewhere. She got her Dad to open the device and made efforts to take the water out. In the process of trying to open it, they pretty severely misshaped the back plate. She sent it in to me from Rohnert Park where she goes to college (about 12 miles from here) once she got back on the mainland.

And the water remediation efforts weren't perfect. I find this to be try almost every time a civilian goes to work on a water immersion case. Notice the corrosion that had begun in the area of the scroll wheel control on the front side of the logic board. Even when things look "OK" unless you go through the entire device you really haven't dodged a bullet and the iPod fails later due to corrosion. Notice the detail photo of the front side corrosion.

I processed through the problem, made my best re-shaping the backplate and now it works again, see there's Dwight from her (and most college students) favorite show.

Total cost to her including shipping back... $40

Fixed - Total cost..$40.

Brad Hillman sent his 80GB Video iPod in from Piedmont, California
which is about 75 miles away along with a check for $75. ISIS, the name he has given his iPod was producing sound only from the left side.

I replaced the headphone wire harness and now it works perfectly. One of the benefits of having me repair his iPod is he gets it back with 13818 songs and 5 videos still on it. Apple won't make this repair, they sell you a pre-repaired iPod (known as a refurbished model) instead and it comes with an empty drive.

Brad's total cost to get back running smoothly was $75

Fixed - Total cost $75.

Chris Shawwa sent his ipod in from San Mateo, California
(a town I worked in for about year in 1997 as the Vice-Pres of Operations for a Japanese Corporation), which is about 110 miles away.

The LCD was cracked. It arrived at about 11am and I had it repaired and sent back to him that same afternoon.

Total cost for the repair and shipping back is $73

Fixed - Total cost..$73.
