    My Priorities

I try to fold my personal priorities over into what I think ought to be national priorities.

This year I am installing a Photo Voltaic Solar Electric generating system here. I believe energy independence is a national priority. I will actually generate a bit more electricity than I use here even with the server farm. That means there won't be natural gas fired generating plant working to make the added electricity I can throw back into the grid.

The US cannot keep a supply line stretched across the Atlantic Ocean through the Suez canal, up the Gulf of Arabia and into the Red Sea perpetually. The United States stations two aircraft carriers in the Red Sea/Straights of Hormuz just to keep the supply line open. If the oil companies had to pay for the protection they are receiving from the US military, in business parlance "internalize the externalities" the cost of barrel of oil would be just north of $300 not the present $60

If oil hadn't been discovered in the Middle East in 1928, the area would have ZERO strategic importance and we would think of it as a "restaurant type" ("How about MIddle Eastern tonight, honey?) not a focus of global political discussion.

Energy independence also means we will not be sending currency out of the country and thereby increase the local investment rate.

I am slow food movement proponent. That is to say someone that doesn't think fast food has a place in any culture. The idea is to eat fresh and local, without a dependence on processed foods. I'm not a hippie, but this thinking is cardinal to a diet type that I follow made famous by Michel Montignac and the use of the glycemic index. Adhere to it and you will remain thin, toned and non-diabetic.

I'm lucky I live in an area that doesn't have snow, with a longer than average growing season. Following my Italian grandfather's example, I have fruit trees all around the grounds here. They include, plum, apple, pear, cherry, olive, orange, peach, tangerine, lemon, lime, fig and a producing avocado tree (rare in this climate, but planted in a protected area, it has done well).

There are also raised beds for vegetables all around here.
