Ed Ketchum called me from Bakersfield California (93309) about his son's iPod Touch.
The Touch 2nd Gen had a smashed front upper glass and digitizer. We covered verbally how to send it to me.... and I followed up with an email afterward.
It arrived a few days and was a straight forward repair that I got done and sent back the same day.
The total cost was $64 which included labor and return shipping.
RoseMarie Treece is a repeat client that lives in Camas Washington (98607). I got an email from her one morning that read,
"Hi Frank:
You fixed my 80GB a few years back after I dropped it in the bathtub. It was doing fine, and then suddenly, after flying to Vegas in my carry-on, it suddenly stopped working, had a red circle with an X and said it was corrupted, and now it just has the folder with the exclamation mark on it. From reading your site, it is possible this is just a problem you can fix without replacing the hard drive. Once I hear from you, I will drop it in the mail. If it can be fixed for $40, I'll take it. If it's a bigger deal than that, I would fork over the big bucks and get 160GB, as I will never be happy until I have every audiobook I ever wanted on it.
Thanks,
Rosemarie Treece"
I had her send it with $40 which is my labor rate for that model of iPod.
Her hard drive was permanently damaged. But there was good luck in it too... and I thought her drive was gone from her description. I knew I could replace her 80GB with a new 160GB one and the whole repair would cost less than half of what a new one was.
The replacement drive was $100 and labor/return shipping was $40. In total under half the cost of a new one.
The total cost for this repair - $140
