Add a folder to your iTunes Library - Macintosh User
Check for Protected Files

Check for Protected Files
Now we need to make sure we don't have any protected files in the add_to_library folder. we will do this using the find file technique I outlined in the "copy your friends iTunes Library" page. Protected files are ones that your friend has actually spent money for on iTunes. These protected files will not play unless you authenticate your computer with their email address and password. It's too complex to want to do so let's get rid of them NOW.

Press the "apple" key (to the left of the space bar) and then the "F" key. It will bring up FindFile and it will look like this:

Let's modify the search parameters so we can find protected files on your ipod. Pull down the "Search in" and change it from everywhere to "Specific Places". This will bring a checkboxed locator that looks like this.

Check the box to the left of your ipod and make sure no others are checked.

Go to the "search for" pull down "Names" and change it to "Extension". In the blank box to the right of "is" type in "m4p" (for mpg4 protected). It wil look like this.

now click the "Search" button.

It will bring back a result set. In this case I had one protected file and it found it. Notice the path to the file at the bottom of the search result window.

Select those files in the list with a click and drag them to the desktop trash can. From the Finder menu pull down to "Empty Trash". It will delete the file from your iPod. Even though you will still see it listed in the result screen, there is no path to the file in the lower window showing its been deleted.

Close the search result window and close the Find File window. Also shrink, using the yellow dot the iPod contents window with the 'add_to_library' folder into the dock. we know its there now.

Good we are now ready to add all of their music and video files to your iTunes Library.
