Jim Lewis called me by phone from Flower Mound, Texas
to discuss his 2nd Generation Nano that he put in the washing machine for several minutes. I gave him the instructions for sending it in and followed up with an email outlining it further. It arrived about 12 days after the incident.
His was not an iPod I was able to make work again. The message I sent him was,
"The scroll wheel select button doesn't work which means the scroll and housing would have to be replaced.
There was so much corrosion at the LCD connection that both the logic board and LCD would have to be replaced.... which now means a whole new iPod.
Follow the link on my site "How to buy a new iPod cheaply"
I sent it back with a $20 refund.

Geoffrey Dunham is a criminal defense attorney here in Santa Rosa
that was an instructor of another lawyer friend of mine Valorie Bader when she went to Empire Law School. Geoff has a 5th Generation video iPod which merely stopped working. He found me on the internet and arranged to bring the iPod over on the way to work.
His was an unusual case. I took the iPod completely apart and tested all the components and everything worked. Then put it all back together again and they all worked together. There must have been something loose or some glitch that kept it from working.
The total cost for Geoff was $40
These are before and after shots.
Fixed - Total cost $40.

Robert Atkinson emailed me from Hayward, California
about his 5th Gen video iPod. He has been a client before. This time the had dropped his iPod and drove the earbud plug far enough into the headphone jack that it permanently damaged the right side connection leaving him just left side hearing.
It arrived a few days later on New Years Eve. I had it repaired by the next day sent it back to him on January 1st 2009 at the post office while on my way to early family dinner. I doubt it was out of hands a total of 4 days including New Years when the Post Office was closed.
The part was $28 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $68.
