Tova Jaffe called from San Rafael, California
to learn what might be wrong with his white 5th Gen video iPod. He described perfectly merely a broken LCD screen.
The device seemed to power up, there was a broken screen image and he was able to rotate the scroll wheel and handle navigation to kind of select a song.
He sent it up to me with a check for $73 which is all to took to make it work perfectly again.
Fixed - Total cost..$73.

Anthony Sayler sent his ipod 4th Generation 20GB model in from Mayville, North Dakota.
He was experiencing the folder exclamation mark error. This is a error I can usually do something with by using an array of drive utilities and moving the drive to other devices or different adapters so I can examine the drive on different computer systems and mount it for repair or re-formatting.
In Anthony's case I tried everything and was unable to bring the drive back from the brink... and I tried every trick I knew.
He got his iPod back and a $20 refund.

Jason Gruitza sent his 60GB 5th Gen video iPod in from Hermitage, Pennsylvania.
It had a data corruption problem and wouldn't complete the boot phase to deliver a menu.
I was able to work through the data problem and bring the drive back to health. The logic board also had a problem. There are two sets of power connections through the iPod 30 pin docking port on the bottom. There is a 12 volt firewire connection available at pins 11 or 12 for +12 and their firewire ground is at pins 1 or 2 *and* there is a 5 volt USB connection at pin 8 and the USB ground is pin 15
Jason's firewire power connections were damaged somehow. My best guess is from a plug in the wall stereo of the "iHome" type.
But his USB recharge connections still worked.
Here is a shot of Jason's iPod working
Fixed - Total cost..$40.
