Wayne Gaul sent his iPod in from Escondido, California
after it had been put through the washing machine. He took it apart but wasn't able to get it working again and then called me.

He sent it in with $40 cash and probably considered it a lost cause, but as little as $40 to get it back working and at worst having to pay $20 to learn it will never work.

It arrived on March 13th and I had it working later that day. It was sent back on March 14th.

Fixed - Total cost..$40.

Jeffrey Riccio got a hold of me from Massapequa Park, New York
by email saying "My son left his ipod video out in the rain for 2 days, he doesn't even know that he did. We haven't told him because his Grandmother gave it to him and past away last Thanksgiving so we don't want to upset him if there's a chance it can be repaired. He has Tourettes Syndrome and the stress of it being ruined might be too much for him to bear.

Can you tell me what do I have to do to get it repaired, if it can be. I hear water inside it if I shake it. I didn't power it up, do you think there is a chance?"

I sent back instructions on how to get it to me and it arrived a few days later.

I took it apart and corrected the problems that I could but the hard drive I couldn't make work and this was a very early manufactured 5th Generation iPod. The battery was over two years old and in need of replacement.

I sent them a message and let them the drive was $60 and the battery was $23, they sent the $83 by PayPal.

The repair was finished that day and sent back to them the next day.

Total cost to bring the sentimental iPod back to life was $123

Works factory perfect.

Fixed - Total cost..$123.

Roger Chambers sent in Jacci's iPod from Humble, Texas.

He and I spoke on the phone before he sent it about the scroll wheel and compass point switches not working on it.

At that time I told him the chance it was anything but a failed logic board were mighty slim. I 299 out of 300 patient cases where the scroll wheel didn't work, it was the result of water damage to the upper left quadrant of the front of the logic board.. In case a woman from Santa Monica was right and it was the scroll wheel itself. The way you would know is the compass point switches still work when the scroll wheel alone has failed.

Roger sent it in and when it arrived I pulled it apart and found the moisture based corrosion. There wasn't a lot but just where I expected to see it. I tried to clean up the problem and that didn't make a difference and then just to say I'd tried everything, I replaced the scroll wheel and that made no difference.

Roger used PayPal to send in $90 for the logic board part.

I ran a data extraction and parked the music files back on the iPod so they could be added to their iTunes Library when they got the device back. That file parked on the iPod is the difference between 27.8 GB drive formatting and the 14.7GB still available.

Fixed - Total cost..$130.
