Matt Fowler lives here in Santa Rosa, California
and stopped by to see about what was wrong with his 5th Gen video iPod. As it happens I was away at the moment he dropped by. I let people know to call me before coming by merely to make sure I'm here. People expect to talk with me about their iPod so they can pick my brain for experience with their problem. Also I want to be here to for them so we can confer and make sure we develop a grip on the problem and its solution together.
So.... I missed his visit but he called and we set something up for the next day. He stopped by around noon on December 27th and we were pretty convinced he had dropped his iPod one too many times and needed the drive replaced.
I worked on it and called him later that day. The drive needed replacement and he stopped by at 5PM to to pick it up fixed.
The drive was $60 and labor was $40
Fixed - Total cost $100.

Joel Penhallegon got a hold of me from Omaha, Nebraska.
He was back on leave from Iraq and had what had been described as a failed drive by another company that does iPod repairs. For a number of reasons Joel called and we discussed his circumstances and then had his iPod sent from Rapid Repair in Kalamazoo, Michigan to me to have the drive replaced.
It finally arrived several days later on Friday December 26th 2008. I had the drive replaced and had installed the 6602 Country songs he needed to make life meaningful while in country.
The 80GB replacement drive for his 6th Gen was $100 and labor including return shipping to Nebraska
before his next tour was $40
Here is a shot of the Settings screen showing the files restored to his new drive.
Fixed - Total cost $140.

Alex Xu called me from Fremont, California
about his iPod Touch which became immersed in water in December of 2008. He sent it in with $60 (my fee for working on Touch models) and a letter. The letter read,
"I have enclosed my iPod Touch hoping that you will be able to save it after I haphazardly dropped it in our local creek when I slipped trying to cross (fresh water)" I couldn't even find the iPod for a minute and it was on when it got submerged. When I got it out, the screen glowed white and then just flickered for maybe an hour and subsequently changing to black.... but still on. After two hours the iPod finally turned off. I really hope that you are able to recover my iPod because I live my life around my iPod (I can use it as my planner and calendar).
I got it on a Friday and by Sunday I had it all working correctly again.
Fixed - Total cost $60.
