Gene Wilmer called me from Swissvale, Pennsylvania
to discuss his 5th Gen video iPod with the headphone jack problem of hearing from just the left side. He also had another request... it seems the Windows based PC this iPod had been connected to for it's iTunes Library had crashed and they didn't have a copy of them anywhere else and wanted me to run a data extraction and file park for him too.
When it got here I replaced the LCD first to make sure we even had a operational iPod. Once I could see that everything worked then I began to take a copy of the files off of it.
He had 3023 songs that occupied 11.7 GB of space but there was enough space on the drive to "park" the extra copy. When I sent it back, I included instructions to teach him how to add them permanently to his new iTunes Library (and anyone else's that he wanted to also).
The headphone jack part was $28 and the labor including shipping back and data extraction/file parking *with* instructions to add them back to his new system was just $40.
A total of $68 got him back everything even his Windows machine working again.
Fixed - Total cost $68.

Mike Zaugg got a hold of me from San Francisco, California
just a little south of here. He had smashed the LCD on his 5th Gen video iPod and needed the LCD replaced. I went over the steps to send it in and it arrived a few days later by US Mail.
It was a straight ahead repair that I do all the time. It arrived on Saturday December 27th and I had it finished and back on the way to him that afternoon.
The LCD was $33 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $73.

Sharon Gegenheimer called me from Fremont, California
one day in late December 2008. He daughter Samantha's 5th Gen video iPod had hearing from one side only and she wanted to send it up to get fixed. Well originally she considered driving up which would take between 1 1/2 and 2 hours. I convinced her sending it was more practical and by the time she actually scheduled the time for the drive it would be done and back to her anyway. She saw the wisdom in this and sent it up.
Besides getting the hearing fixed we agreed it was a practical time to replace the battery too.
The battery was $19, the headphone jack was $28 and labor including return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $79.
