Jacinta Rust noticed me on the internet and sent an email
that read
"My husband & I just returned from our vacation to Cabo. While there, I dropped my ipod in the swimming pool & since then, it has stopped working. I researched you on the internet & feel confident that you will be able to fix my ipod. I attempted to dry it out. My music now shows up & plays through my computer. I, cannot however view details on my ipod's screen, nor can I play it without using my computer."
She sent it in with a check for $40. It arrived from Worthington, Minnesota a few days later.
It had significant lead oxide corrosion that had built up which I was able to clean up but two of the traces on the LCD ribbon connector had corroded away and the LCD needed to be replaced.
She PayPal'd in the $21 for the LCD.
As I mentioned to her this is the first iPod I've seen that had all country music and then also had the explicit version of Pink's U + Ur Hand. (Toby Keith and Pink!)
The device is now working perfectly, good audio and good data connectivity.
Fixed - Total cost $61.

Ryan Keller called from here in Santa Rosa.
Initially he was asking about his 4th Gen Black and White iPod and it's need for a battery. As it happened at that particular moment, I was out of that battery and then he went on to describe another iPod he had... a 5th Gen video iPod that had stopped working after he dropped it.
It sounded like the hard drive had suffered mechanical failure and I told him I could get that one running perfectly for just $100 if that was the problem.
He decided to bring the Video one in and a couple of hours later he was able to come by and pick it up fixed. The hard drive was replaced and it worked beautifully.
It was $60 for the drive and $40 labor.
Fixed - Total cost $100.

Francisco Jaraillo called from Petaluma, California
not far from here
about 14 miles away and went on to describe the famous "hearing from only
the left earbud" problem. It was his son Diego's 5th Gen video iPod he was
speaking about.
He made and appointment, came up and dropped it off. An hour later it was
ready for him.
The headphone jack replacement part was $35 and labor was $40.
Fixed - Total cost $75.
