Amy Peaver-Smith called from Leander, Texas
to discuss the possibility of
restoring here water exposed iPod. She had seen the website and knew I had
a talent for this type of work.
She sent it in with a check for $45 (wanted it sent back Priority mail)
and hoped I could get it working.
I was able to get the hard drive working and keep all of her files on it,
and I was able to get the logic board cleaned up and working.
The LCD had suffered pretty severe corrosion and would no longer work.
Also since her 5th Gen video was one of the earliest (you can tell because
of the color of the battery) it was time to replace the battery. She used
PayPal to send in the needed funds to finish the repair.
The LCD was $33, the battery was $23 and labor with return shipping was
$40.
Works perfectly now, water case remedied with new battery for $96
Fixed - Total cost $96.

Shane is my US Mail carrier here in Santa Rosa but lives in Middletown, California. He commutes an hour each way every day to maintain his "seniority" at the Range Avenue Annex. If a postal job opened up in his home town, he wouldn't be able to transfer at his present rate of pay, so society will endure car exhaust for two hours a day and he will waste that two hours congesting the roads until he retires. He and I chat from time to time.
He has seen me start this small electronic repair business a couple of years ago and it's growth. I imagine he is still a bit startled that I am able to help people from all over and never really have to leave the great surroundings I work in to make a long commute to work.
Shane dropped his Kodak camera in a swimming pool and it stopped working. Since he's learned I'm a water immersion expert at things like this he brought it to me and actually never thought he would see it work again.
He brought the wall adapter/charger for it so I could check and test my work. I had it for two days and was able to get back working again perfectly.
I've mentioned that I used to play in rock when younger. One of the guys I played with Steve Nelson is also a letter carrier and Shane and Steve know one another. Steve (whom everyone calls Rocko - for his rock music interest) had told Shane the day before that if anyone could it get going it was me. Back 20 years ago when we were playing together I was the guy that fixed our electronic gear then too.
The total cost for Shane to get his camera working perfectly was $40
Fixed - Total cost $40.

Kevin Hanson called me one day from Sacramento, California.
Their Nano 3rd Gen had gone through the washer the night before (but not the dryer). It was arrived here about two weeks after the exposure.
I opened it up and put through my processing steps. The LCD wouldn't work. Once it was replaced I was able to get the entire device working again.
All the music and videos were still there.
The LCD was $33 and labor return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $73.
