Charlie Lyon lives in Petaluma, California but works for the City of San Francisco
as motorcycle cop riding a Harley at work. He also spends time as salesperson at a Harley dealership when not on duty.
His 5th Generation video iPod was given to him by a friend for free after it dropped and broke open. He hoped it could b made to work affordably and called me.
It needed a new LCD, and battery. Also the when the device broke open the earphone jack cable was severed and that part needed to be replaced.
The LCD was $33, the battery was $19, the ear jack was $28 and labor was $40. I replaced his faceplate with
a new one at no charge along with the select button just to give it a brand new appearance.
Fixed - Total cost $120.

Phil Leen sent his iPod in from Citrus Heights near Sacramento, California.
His 5th Gen video iPod because he was getting hearing from just the left earbud. This is a well understood problem coming from dropping the iPod while the earbuds are plugged in and having the plug jammed far enough into the jack that it destroys the right side contact permanently.
I changed the jack and then tested the USB data power connectivity to make sure the iPod charge circuits worked and I could change out the songs on it with iTunes. Since Phil and I have had a couple of iPod repairs between us, I also changed out the faceplate to make his iPod look brand new.
The earbud jack was $28, the faceplate was free and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $68.

Tim Foley called me from Cotati, California
which is a bit south of here. The battery in his 5th Gen video iPod wasn't holding a charge and he had reasoned it down to needing the battery replaced. Once he described more of the circumstances I didn't have a complaint with his diagnosis and had him bring it in the next day.
Fixed - Total cost $59.
