Marc Stewart from Ashville, North Carolina
had sent me one iPod that I was able to make work again, and had another that had been water exposed. This is how he put it in email,
"You've fixed an iPod for me a month or so ago and now my wife's Nano is damaged. She tucked in her bra while running and it seems the sweat as rendered it inoperable. Is this something that you can fix? Let me know. If so I'll send it right out to you. Many thanks and happy new year!"
In this case I wasn't able to make it work. There was so much corrosion in the upper right area of the scroll wheel on the logic board, That I couldn't make the LCD work.
I ultimately had to send it back with a $20 refund.

Tammy Kennedy called from here in Santa Rosa, California.
She had a 3rd Gen iPod that needed a new battery and though she would make the replacement herself so she ordered the battery on eBay and it arrived for her a few days later.
The battery she received didn't fit and that's why she was calling me. She had bought a 4th Gen battery which is slightly larger in both directions and would never fit in her 3rd Gen.
I told to bring it over and I would exchange the battery she had for the one she needed and perform the battery install for $40.
Repairing her repair cost just $40 and it works perfectly now.
Fixed - Total cost $40.

Angela Alexander lives in Calabasas, California
in the hills north of Los Angeles. She heard about from Michael Bowden in Oakland California and and sent her 160GB 6th Gen video iPod to me because it just wouldn't work. She sent it up with $40 and a bit of hope.
When it arrived I took it apart and began testing each part separately and discovered both the logic board *and* the hard drive didn't work. This is a remarkably unlikely occurrence unless the device has been hit with a massive amount electrical current.
I called her and asked if she was a docking station user. She then mentioned she had just gotten a new and the iPod worked until the moment when she put it on the docking station and then it stopped... forever.
The cost of those parts with labor/return shipping exceeded the value of the device so I counceled her against repairing it.
It wouldn't be worth the money spent on the repair. She appreciated the honesty and the $20 refund.
