Kaje Housman called me from Parrish, Florida
about her 6th Gen 80GB video iPod. As she said it, "It fell into water for no more than 2-3 seconds on March 10th 2009." The note she sent along with it went on to say that she did the idiotic thing many people do... try to rice as a desiccant but it never works and time wasted allows corrosion to actually form and build.

I was able to get it apart and work my way through things. The area of the battery was worse than others... common in a way because it is near the hold in the docking port that allows water in.

She needed a new battery but I was able to all of it working again correctly.

The battery was $19 and labor/return shipping was $40

Fixed - Total cost $59.

Aariz Abbasi called me from Escondido, California
near San Diego. He has a 5th Gen video iPod, dropped it with it opening up. He tried to put things back together but it had a problem so he brought it a local iPod/laptop/computer repair place called Micro Mobile also in Escondido. They had the device for a few days and then told him it had a failed logic board and it would too expensive to consider fixing and they couldn't do it right then.

So now he had a non-working iPod declared to have a failed logic board and he brought it the Apple store in San Diego and they said since it wasn't under warranty it couldn't be repaired.

What they really meant but deliberately phrased badly was, "since it isn't under warranty, we won't bother to assist and do any repairs to it". This manipulation Apple does is intended to have the customer, really *their customer* give up in frustration, capitulate and trade their repairable iPod in for 10% off on a new one.

Aariz held back and brought his iPod home, then found me. I had him send it up with $40. When it got here I took it apart and realized all of the elements of the hard drive had been deliberately taken off and reversed, with the drive cable deliberately misconnected so it would throw the starry eyed sad face.

I don't think Aariz had the know how to disable ti this way and certainly he had no motivation. But it would Micro Mobile because it would further the sale of a logic board, "when they time to get to it".

Ultimately Aariz's iPod needed a new battery, that was $19 and I gifted him a new back plate and installed it so he would have a really well kept looking iPod.

His "it can't be repaired iPod" I brought back to perfect utility and with a new battery it cost a total of $59

Fixed - Total cost $59.

Julie Chu emailed me on a Saturday at 11pm from San Francisco.
The message read,

"I have an iPod classic, 30gb, not sure what generation but the model no. is A1136 EMC no. 2065. It no longer works after drowning in water. A few months back, water had spilled out of a water bottle in my purse and the iPod soaked in it for a good 5 minutes. It doesn't turn on anymore, even when plugged into the usb. Would you be able to take a look at it and see if it can be fixed? If so, I can mail it out asap."

She sent it up to me and PayPal'd in my $40 fee.

It got here the next Tuesday (so she must have sent it on Sunday). Once I had it apart and cleaned things and put it back together I was able to get it all to work except the battery had shorted and de-plated one of its leads so it had to be replaced. The battery is a $19 item.

So even after months I was able to get this back and working. The battery was $19 and labor/return shipping was $40

I had it fixed and sent back the next day (Wednesday) and she sent me this message Thursday morning

Fixed - Total cost $59.
