Sally Lambert lives in Sebastopol, California and is a previous client.
She had a Nano 3rd Gen that went through washer and brought it to me. I was able to get that Nano for and it cost just $40, so when her 5th Gen video iPod looked like it had the same problem she called me.
You could actually see liquid rocking back and forth under the face plate, like a Lava Lamp. When I got it apart I could smell that it was some lemon scented cleaning oil like Old English.
I had to replace the LCD which was filled with the oil and the battery had begun to expand showing it was time to replace it.
The LCD was $22, the battery was $19 and labor was $40, works perfectly now.
Fixed - Total cost $81.

Chris Scott called me one day from Eugene, Oregon about his 6th Gen 80GB video iPod.
He had a water mishap with it and wanted to know more about me and what I do. We talked through the process and he sent it in.
It arrived with a letter that read,
" The details are, this iPod was dropped in the river and unfortunately damp for several hours afterwards. It was allowed to dry for 48 hours. After which. for the most part, it has been unresponsive. It did however briefly display faint rolling lines across the screen when connected to a compute, and also when I attempted to reset it a few minutes after that."
I worked at through the day and got it working perfectly, though it needed two parts, an LCD screen and a battery.
Scott was happy at the result. The LCD was $33, the battery was $19 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $92.
