I got an email from a lawyer Holly Burgess in Sacramento, California
about her Black 5th Gen video iPod that read,
"Today, I am sending you my ipod classic for repair. I found you on the web. I live in Sacto, but work in San Diego. It needs a new earphone jack (I think). Thanks,"
It arrived a few days later and I had it repaired and on the way back to the day it arrived. The headphone jack part was $28 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $68.

Charles Lindo called me from San Francisco, California about his 5th Generation video iPod.
He described what was going on and it was clear he had a permanent mechanical hard drive failure on his hands. He sent it in several days later because he got busy with other things but it finally arrived.
The drive did need replacing. The part was $60 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $100.

Gaston Gomez sent me his 6th Gen sent me his 6th Gen video iPod from Brownsville, Texas.
The 80GB hard drive was operating erratically and quite unreliably. He sent it in with $40 and rather hoped I could spank it into operating conformity.
That was not how it turned out. I couldn't get the drive to work any better and it had to be replaced or torment him forever.
He elected to get a 120GB replacement drive. Gaston is among people that think they need to carry their entire iTunes Library with them at all times ;) I'm not that kind of person.
The drive was $120 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $160.
