Amy Choi sent me an email from PV, California... well Ranch Palos Verdes, California.
Residents there and in LA don't use the full name, they call it PV because it's such a wealthy area full of expensive homes built right on the ocean (when you still could, the coastal commission doesn't permit that now). Her message read,
"Hi, this is Amy from Los Angeles.
I found your site through google and was wondering if you could fix my ipod at an affordable rate. About a month ago, my ipod was exposed to a bit of rain. Ever since then, it only works when plugged into a wall charger. When taken off the wall charger, it immediately crashes and turns off, and while on the wall charger, the screen says that the battery is fully charged. While on the wall charger, the ipod is fully functional, with all my data intact. When plugged into a laptop, the ipod screen simply flashes the apple logo forever, and the laptop doesn't recognize it. When not plugged into anything, the ipod is completely unresponsive, no matter how many times I reset it or what buttons I press. I sent it to ipodjuice.com for a battery replacement, but was told i needed to pay a total of 350$+ for a new logic board and hard drive. This is a ridiculous price, so I ended up asking for the iPod back without any repairs done on it, although the new battery has been installed. The music on my ipod is very important to me, as I don't have it backed up on my computer :( Do you think you could get my ipod running again? It hasn't even been a year since I bought it and apple told me the warranty didn't cover it due to water damage. If you think you could fix it at a reasonable cost, please give me a quote.
Thanks a lot!
Amy"
I emailed back the process to send it in to me and arrived about a week later. When I opened it, I was pretty shocked. The ipodjuice staff was so indifferent to water exposed iPod that they had deliberately sabotaged/destroyed the headphone jack and then slammed all the parts shut in the iPod without any regard for the value of the device or its contents because they had deemed it unfixable... and still they put a new battery in it.... about 100% weird.
I went through it and was able to get it to work again perfectly... perfectly. She had to buy a new headphone jack. That part was $35. She wouldn't have if the people at ipodjuice cared a tiny bit more about environmentalism and material conservation. That was wasteful, bad behavior... uncool.
Amy's total was $75 to get her iPod back working again perfectly and all of her files were still safely on the drive.
On hearing the result she sent me this message,
"Hi Frank,
Wow thank you so much! I just paypaled you the 35$. So happy I can get my ipod+data back... You truly are the best, will recommend you to everyone I know! I will also tell everyone what jerks ipodjuice are :( Let me know when all is good and ready to be shipped :) Thanks again!!!"
Then still later I got this when she received it back.
"Hi Frank,
My iPod just came in the mail today!!! I was amazed to find out that it was in perfect working condition with all the data and such... You are amazing!!! Thanks for everything, will most definitely recommend you to everyone around me! Thanks again!
Amy"
Fixed - Total cost $75.
