Kathleen Irwin emailed me from Raleigh, North Carolina about her son's iPod Touch 2nd Gen that read,
"Frank--
I am in desperate need of your service. My son received an Ipod touch for his birthday two weeks ago. This past week he dropped it in the toilet! I put it up until I could figure out what to do with it, and am hoping you can help. I would very much like NOT to have to tell his father about it so he will make it to see 17! :)
Please let me know if you can help and what I need to do. We are in NC--so I will need to mail it out to you.
Thanks,
Kathleen"
I sent her the needed info about sending it in and arrived a few days later. This is a model that I am able to make work about 70% of the time these days in spite of some of Apple's engineering that which makes it far more difficult.
This shows some of the corrosion in the LCD area of the logic board and the LCD plug (which was destroyed). You can click on the image and get a larger detail of it.
She forgot to send me his Touch "Lock Code" the 4 digit number that allows the device to actually be used.
I worked the device and was able to get it to work again perfectly. It needed a replacement LCD screen which was $43 but for $103 they got his Touch back working again.
Fixed - Total cost $103.

Joe Weber is an electrician in Sonoma, California.
His wife gave him a Nano 3rd Gen a couple of years ago which worked great until the LCD got smashed. No one is sure how that happened. He called and brought it to me.
The replacement LCD was $22 and labor was $40
Fixed - Total cost $62.

Kevin Oellien, (who is a previous customer) called me from Overland Park, Kansas
about a Black 60GB 5th Gen video iPod that had been dropped in water. Like many he wasn't really sure I could make it work again, but for $40 and the fact that I am able to make 14 out of 15 of that model work again... he thought... OK.
It arrived a few days later and I went to work processing the water damage. By the time I was done I got it all working again perfectly. Because this was one of the earliest 5th Gen's the battery was at least 3 1/2 years old so it was replaced.
The battery was $23 and labor/return shipping was $40 so for he $63 he basically got back his iPod perfectly with all of his files still on it in brand new condition.
Fixed - Total cost $63.
