I got an iPod sent in by Sherri Magnett from Omaha, Nebraska. It came with a letter that read,
" The enclosed iPod was dropped into a tub filled with water by my daughter. She felt that it was only underwater for a couple of seconds. That was about 4 days ago. I guess she was hoping it would dry out and work without our ever knowing about the occurrence. Fortunately for her, the plan didn't work since your articles make it sound like even if it would have partially worked again, it have been a downhill slide after that."
She sent $40 by PayPal. Her iPod had two huge problems. The logic board was damaged beyond... , just beyond and I couldn't get the hard drive to work again.
I sent her this message,
"Sherri,
The iPod has two serious problems. The logic board I can't make work *and* also the hard drive. I even took the drive apart to try to make it work again as I did for the fellow in Nashville Jason Rockhill. The drive controller had some fairly serious corrosion, even with that taken care of I couldn't make a difference.
So those two parts bring the repair to much more than the device would be worth fixed.
I'll refund back $20 of the $40 you Paypal'd in and send it back tomorrow.
As for buying a replacement, rather than buy used, read this and follow it

If you must buy used read this and follow it

Sorry I couldn't get a better result.
Frank"
It cost her $20 to learn that there nothing on planet earth that was going to bring iPod affordably back to life.

I got an email from Brent Robbins one morning who lives in Muskegon, Michigan. It read,
'Hello Frank;
You have a great website with a ton of helpful info.
Yeah, my daughter's went into the clothes washer for 2 minutes or so. Regardless, it still took on some water and now needs repair.
I plan to send it on it's way tomorrow and will plan to pay you via paypal. Might as well plan to return "priority".'
It arrived a few days later. I was able to get all aspects of it working... except one... I could not get the scroll wheel to work again.
I sent it back with a $20 refund
