Rick Potts called me from Neenah, Wisconsin about his Purple 8GB 4th Gen Nano
which he had put through a full wash cycle in his washing machine. It also had hydrogen peroxide for bleach but no fabric softener. He discovered the iPod while moving things to the dryer.
I sent him instructions to send it in and it got here by weeks end. I was not able to make a difference in his iPod the LCd had damage and I couldn't make the battery hold a charge. I sent him this message,
"Rick,
This is to let you know, that need to move on and get another iPod.
After working through the one here, it has two catastrophic aspects. The ribbon for the LCD was corroded badly enough that the backlight will never work on this one with any LCD and I tried 3.
The other problem is the battery recharge circuits are trashed. It can't work portably.
I can't make the battery work or the battery re-charge circuits. It will work perfectly with a car adapter or a docking station *or* as a portable USB 'hard' drive to move files from one computer to another.
I will be sending it back with a $20 refund.
Frank"
I could not bring that one fully back to life so he got a refund of half of his labor fee.

Colleen Conway or San Diego California sent me an email one morning that read,
"My daughter just washed her 3rd generation ipod in the washing machine and I found it after I heard the noise in the dryer. She is under a great deal of stress trying to bring up an Algebra grade in order to participate in an 8th grade trip, so this has just about put her over the edge.
How much do you charge for a 3rd generation ipod and what is the time it takes for repair? Thank you for your time and website. You may be a lifesaver to a 14 year old!
Colleen Conway"
I sent back information on my success with that model (able to get 7 out 8 working again) and how to get it to me. It arrived a few days later and I was able to get it working perfectly again with no additional parts being needed.
Total cost $40
Fixed - Total cost $40.
