Belinda Pollock emailed from slightly north of here in Comptche, California. The message read,
"Good morning, My 15 year old daughter has an ipod that is in need of repair. She claims it did not get dropped, tossed, stepped on etc. It was a Christmas gift in 2008, so it is not that old. If you would like to attack this repair please let me know. It is an ipod nano 4th generation,16GB '
Thanks for your time. Belinda "
I sent her back information on sending it and got here a day or so later. I worked on it off and on for a week and was able to get everything working but the screen. Even a new LCD presented only a white screen.
I ultimately sent it back with a $20 refund. I couldn't make a difference in that one.

Carolyn Hershey was having a problem with her Black 5th Gen video iPod
and called me from New Paltz, New York to go over it. I couldn't tell on the phone exactly what the issue was so I told her to send it in with $40 and I would let her know.
It arrived a few days later with a check for $40. I was able to determine that everything about her 5th Gen worked *except* her hard drive and emailed her that she would need a $60 replacement drive.
She used PayPal to send the funds in and sent a message at the same time that read,
"WOW! Thanks! You are the miracle worker everyone said you are. I sent the $60. Can't wait to have it back and working. I can't believe it!
Caroline"
It was $100 to get her iPod back and working perfectly.
Fixed - Total cost $100.

Bryce Hardy lives here In Santa Rosa.
He has a 6th Gen 80GB video iPod that had been 'flakey'. It proved to be his hard drive and it was immediately discernible when I noticed about 60GB of "other" on the "settings" screen. Once I had the iPod cabled to my PC and could see there was no unseen directory that had could be "other" i knew the drive controller card had mapped it out as bad blocks, unable to faithfully store data.
Since he had a case that accommodated a single platter drive, I gave him the option of a 30GB or 80Gb drive. He wanted to keep the large capacity and opted for the 80GB version.
The drive was $100 and labor was $40
Fixed - Total cost $140.
