I got a call from Wambui Gitahi-Karunditu who lives in Durham, North Carolina and then weeks passed. Then I got this email,
"Hi Frank,

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I spoke to you about my ipod. We had some family stuff happen right after that and I honestly have been kind of overwhelmed. Anyway, made it to the post office today and the ipod is on it's way to you. I'm sending you the money via paypal as soon as I finish typing this.

The story with the ipod is:

Had it in my purse and my water bottle wasn't closed tightly enough so it was leaking and the ipod was in my bag upright so the bottom part got wet. It was in there for 20 minutes max (maybe less) before I noticed. I took it out, shook it to get the water out and then turned it on to see if it would work and it wouldn't. I tried to turn it on several times but to no avail. When I got home, I tried to run a factory restore on it which didn't work either. So I googled what to do in cases like this and there was all sorts of advice. I picked the simplest - put the ipod in a container with raw rice for a few days to absorb the moisture. The instructions also said not to try and turn it on which I had done but I figured the rice couldn't hurt. Needless to say that did not work either. When charged or connected to the charger the ipod will come on but the click wheel does not work.

Looking forward to hearing if you can raise "Lazarus" (that's what I'm going to call my nano if this works) :)

Thanks,
Wambui."

The $40 was sent via PayPal and it arrived a few days later. I was able to get her iPod working again perfectly and it didn't require replacing any parts.

Total cost was $40

Fixed - Total cost $40.

Charles Hogg works at the Bell Helicopter facility near Burleson, Texas and sent me an eamil that read,
"Frank,

My 11yo daughter left her ipod outside overnight 2 days ago, it was rained on, won't work properly etc. She received it as a birthday gift 2 months ago. I found your website while looking for help, got lots of ideas but fear making matters worse if I attempt any repairs. Long story short, we are visiting my father-in-law in Santa Cruz, CA Aug 6-11 and would be interested if you could take at it. We could mail it from TX then pick it up in person, or drop off/pick up in person, whatever works best. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Charles Hogg"

In my reply I explained that I need a couple days to work through a water case and driving it up here from Santa Cruz is a 3 hour drive each way if you are lucky so sending it in would be the better approach.

He sent it in and I was able to get it all working except the scroll wheel. Actually the scroll wheel itself worked, the control for it on the logic board was damaged and wouldn't work.

The biggest concern was getting the music off the device. I ran a data extraction and parked a copy of the songs so she could add them back to her iTunes Library using the directions here:

http://www.isickbay.com/call--1-877-IPOD-PRO/add_folder_mac.shtml

So ultimately I had to send it back with a $20 refund.
