Eric Schmidt emailed me from the Monterey/Moss Landing (95039) area about his 4th Gen Photo iPod.
The scroll wheel on his iPod had stopped working and since the device worked perfectly in every other way, though old wanted to get it fixed.
That specific problem, could be the result of up to four different types of causes. I told him to send it in with $50 and I would work my way through it. If I needed more because it was the logic board that needed to be replaced, we would use PayPal as the means of settlement.
The UPS driver had to actually get me to sign for it..... my driver misbehaves frequently and leaves packages without as much as knocking on the door.
I was able to get the device working perfectly again without replacing anything necessarily but since his battery was original it was a good candidate. I applied the $10 and replaced the battery, and pushed onto it a few thousand of my electronica/Euro Dance songs.
Fixed - Total cost $50.

Judy Waldron called me from Milford Massachusetts (01757) one morning...
well it was still morning here ;) She bought a 6th Gen video iPod and had used it rather little since she bought it and the battery wasn't holding a charge. She brought it to Best Buy and their Geek Squad take a look at it. They handed it back later saying, the battery wouldn't charge and the device would work while plugged into an external power source..... which is what she had told them when she dropped it off.
She sent it to me... to get the battery replaced and to get copies of the few songs she had it back to her so she could add them back to her new iTunes Library again.
It turns out, the reason the battery wouldn't charge is because of a soft drink being spilled that moved in through the docking port. I was able to take care of the damage and get a new battery to reacharge and hold a charge.
The battery was $16 and the labor/return shipping was $40. In the photo the "other" is the second copy of her files that will arrive for her and her friends.
Fixed - Total cost $56.

Christy Street called from Ogden Utah (84401) about her 8GB 5th Generation Nano
that had gone through the washing machine a week earlier. She did all the things you see on YouTube and none of them worked, so she used Google and typed in iPod dropped in water then found me.
I had her send the iPod in with $40. It took a week but I was able to get it working again completely and perfectly, including the radio and battery recharge circuits.
Fixed - Total cost $40.
