Tricia Cook called me from Novato California (94949) where she lives.
She had dropped her iPhone and smashed her upper glass. I spent a few minutes describing the differences between the 3G and 3GS so we could figure out which one she had. We left off with the belief it was a 3G and set an appointment for the next day to repair it. Tricia's maiden name is Nave. If you've lived in the area like I have since a small boy, you know the name Nave. In Novato on the east side of the 101 freeway was Nave Lanes Bowling Center. Her grandfather and his brothers owned the bowling alley. The building is red brick about 20 feet high and has a sloping arched front. The Nave name disappeared from it maybe 15 or 20 years ago. One of the brothers died and there was enough cash on hand to buy out his descendants interest, so they had to sell the building and the business was closed down. There it... probate and estate tax timelines probably forced the family to sell at a time when it was inopportune. I actually believe estate taxes are okay, (even Warren Buffet and Bill Gates think they are) but we need to accommodate the business cycle so people aren't forced to sell into a down market.
Tricia actually had a 3GS model and left it off for 30 mintues so I could make the replacement. The repair went perfectly. Total cost was $75
Fixed - Total cost $75.

I got an email from Tommy Townsend who lives in Rowland Heights California (91748) that read,
"Hello. Dropped my ipod in a "river" at Disneyland - it was submerged for about 10 minutes. Tried the bowl of rice fix with no luck. Haven't tried to plug it in - afraid to. Still nothing after about a month. I love to tinker and am dying to open this up, but there is so much on it that would be a pain to replace, I don't want to take the chance.
I've got your address -- just let me know that it's okay to send and the exact amount for repair and I'll drop it in the mail.
Thanks in advance for your time and effort!"
I sent him back instuctions on how to send it in to me and it got here four days later. Over three days I was able to make it work again perfectly. I did have to replace the battery in it because there was deep corrosion on two of the five leads of the battery in it.
The battery was $16 and labor/return shipping was $40 but he got his iPod back with all of files still safely on it and working for just $56
Fixed - Total cost $56.
