Paul Jolly lives here in Santa Rosa California (95407) and emailed me about his 5th Gen video ipod.
The message read, "Hi,

My wife owns a 30gb version of the above. It won't hold a charge, even for only 15 seconds. When plugged into our Bose SoundDock, it works fine. When can I bring it by for repair? (I live in Santa Rosa.)

Thanks, Paul"

I responded back,

"Paul

Yes, I should be here all day, let me know when you plan to be by. I'll need the ipod for about an hour effect the change.

Did you read my article on docking stations?

http://www.isickbay.com/call--1-877-IPOD-PRO/ipod_opinion/dock_stations.shtml

Frank"

to which he responded, "Frank,

Fascinating info on both docking stations AND car adaptors. It seems that the most reasonable way to handle playing my ipod music aloud in the home will entail getting an airport & plugging that into my home stereo...and simply playing music off itunes on my computer. Meanwhile, I'll be charging my ipod on the computer only from now on.

I will be busy this afternoon but am free after 4:00pm tomorrow (Friday). Can I bring it by then?

Paul"

He brought it by. The battery was $16 and labor was $40

Fixed - Total cost $56.

David Johnson sent his 5th generation video iPod from Santa Cruz, California (95060).
On December 5th he dropped it into the toilet, ( I don't even ask anymore, it doesn't change the work I do to know it and add anxiety to things ).

He sent me this message, "Good Morning Mr. Walburg,

At 7:30 this morning my 30G video ipod fell into the toilet. I immediately pulled it out (it was submerged for maybe 2 seconds) , cleaned it with anti bacterial soap on a soft flannel cloth and dried it off. The unit was in lock mode however and kept coming on by itself as I was wiping it down. It was not responding very well as I was trying to turn it off and shortly displayed the white screen with the Apple support URL.

Would it work to try to send the unit to you or is this a time sensitive situation needing immediate response? I live in Santa Cruz, CA and can't drive to Santa Rosa.

Thank you for your help, David Johnson"

It arrived on Dec 19th, and later that day I had it working again perfectly. It needed no replacement parts so the total cost to get his iPod back working again was $40

Fixed - Total cost $40.
