Mitch McKenzie.... is a bit better known as Carol Shelton's husband.
His wife is a noted wine maker in the Santa Rosa area with their tasting room and winery over off of Hopper Avenue.
One day he was having a bowl of soup and some how dropped his iPhone 3G into the soup. Like many people he tried his own techniques to bring the phone back to life and a few days later threw his hands up.
It really takes experience with these devices to know how to safely open them up and understand where to look and what you need to examine and correct. Thankfully he understood this was a bit beyond him and set it aside. Later on he found me and brought it over and left it off with my $60 labor fee.
I mentioned that his winery is one of my stops on barrel tasting weekend in March, and I he seemed a bit sceptical so I picked up my Canon Powershot and showed him snaps from when I was there a few weeks earlier.
I tested and worked my way through his iPhone and got everything working except the docking module. This is hte lower most point in the phone and what hit the soup first. The corrosion on it came from the saltiness of the soup and had affected the docking port and the 42 pin commector to the logic board.
Once I had that replaced I was then able to power it up and find all of files were still safely on it.
The part was $35 and labor was $60. He his phone back working pefectly
Fixed - Total cost $95.

A J Long sent me his Black 60GB 5th Gen video iPod from Virginia Beach Virginia (23452)
with a note explaining what had occurred.
" Basically my girlfriend was listening to it late one night, and decided to take it to the bathroom. Long story short, she dropped it in the toilet - it was clean, ;) We tried to dry it out, but it never played again afterward."
I went through it and was able to get everything to work except the hard drive. Factually speaking, that drive was intended to last not longer than three years but made it all the way to 5 years.
The replacement was $50 and the labor return shipping aspect was $40
Fixed - Total cost $90.
