Michael Lopez called me on a day when everyone's iPhone needed to be repaired.
He lives in Petaluma California (94954) and his case was more complex than most because his phone was given to by a friend and was exptremely well worn with a white out LCD screen failure.

The first task would to see if the device worked once the LCD had been replaced, in essence I had no idea if we had a working phone because the screen didn't work.

If when the LCD was replaced the phone appeared to work then go through the phone and see what else it needed.

With the LCD replaced, it worked. The other things it needed were a new on/off switch, ringer wire harness, the vibrator, and a battery.

The total repair came to $110 and he now has a phone he can depend on again.

Fixed - Total cost $110.

Bily Markakis is a personal trainer and fitness instructor in Marin County.
He called from Larkspur (94939) to discuss his 6th Gen 120Gb video iPod which he somehow drenched in mouthwash. He had heard about me fromthe Apple dealer in San Rafael as the expert in liquid problems with iPods. I told him how to get it to me and it got here two days later.

I used the word drenched even though he phrased it as, "A little mouth wash seemed to get into my iPod". In fact when I opened it minty fresh liquid was able to be poured out of it.

This was another case where I had to take the drive apart to get it working again.... I was able to get all aspects of the iPod working again except the battery (which was just trashed with corrosion) and the LCD screen which had liquid trapped in the layers.

The LCD was $33, the battery was $16 and labor/return shipping was $40. All of the music he uses for his workouts was still safely on it and the total was considerably less than the $280 it would have cost out the door for a new one.

I got this back from him,
"Thank You so much..Enjoy talking with you.......Regards"

Fixed - Total cost $89.

Marty Murphy emailed me from Truckee California (96162) about his Silver 3rd Gen Nano.
The message read,

"Hi Frank, my name is Marty Murphy and I live up in Truckee CA. I grew up in Ukiah and went to school in Santa Rosa I think that is how I wandered on to your site looking for someone to do ipod repairs. Anyway my wife has one of the smaller 4gb ipods, it is almost a square, that I bought her several years ago, and the wheel assembly is not working correctly, (push on a portion of it and nothing happens) but it does work in an ipod player with a remote. Let me know if this is something that can be fixed. Thanks, Marty"

It arrived a few days later and I analyzed what it was doing... The problem wasn't consistent and I sent him back this message.

"The iPod arrived and with the difficulty being intermit the only fix is replacing the part.

In this case it means replacing the faceplate and scroll wheel which are epoxied together.

I have one, not new that is in quite decent shape... about as good as yours, that part is $15

I'll send a PayPal request for the $15 cover it and the iPod will be on the way back to you Monday."

He was thrilled with the concept and paid it within minutes. This is the working iPod, total cost was $55, and music and files were still safely on it.

Fixed - Total cost $55.
