Judy Cortez lives here in Santa Rosa (95409) and has an iPad 3 that *had* a cracked upper glass that needed to be replaced.
This is a repair I've done many, many times. In her case the iPad hit and damaged two corners. The number one point of impact is the top right coner on these things.
When the metal backplate on these is damaged so the glass can't lay smoothly in it, I take two appraoches. Can I bend the metal back into shape. That often works with the corner the headphone jack is in because there is a steel plate at that which absorbs most of the impact.
When it can't be bent back I use a small rotary metal grinder to grind away the aluminum backplate that intrudes where the glass has to lay. The small area that goes missing is rarely noticable. The detail photos show how that turned out. They are hardly noticable when looking at the iPad as a whole. But you can notice when looking closely.
The repair took 2 hours and had a total cost of $128
This was a pretty straight ahead repair case. I got a phone call from Walter Lopez who lives in Cotati California (94931). He had cracked upper glas on a Black iPad 2 he wanted replaced.
We discussed when and where to bring it and he was here with it in a few minutes. He lives not far from here.
I always show people the new glass that is used so they can actually see how thin it is.
I also get iPad repairs done in just over two hours for people. I am one of the few places that doesn't send the work to have someone like me do it under arrangement, I do all the repairs here myself. That is also the reason my repair price is so little, I don't send the work out.
His iPad was damaged in the bottom right area. I was out of the Black colored glass so I used a White one, with his approval. This leaves a fairly unique look, of having a "white" iPad with a Black Home key.
He came back at a little after 3pm and it was waiting all finished and perfect looking again.
Total cost was $108
