Tim Mason once lived in Virginia but moved to Petaluma California (94954). I don't recall if he is in the Coast Guard, but I think that's the case.
He called me about his iPad 3 that had a serious mis-hap. During a drop of the iPad it had the docking cable plugged in still and ripped the docking port up, bending the backplate and destroying the upper glass and digitizer.
The only lucky thing about this accident was that it didn't break the LCD beneath the screen.
I had it here a day to repair it. Because of my metal smith back ground i had a solution for the metal problems that didn't involve finding a new backplate.
What I didn't have was a Black replacement screen, so we settled on White with a Black Home Key instead.
The total cost of the repair was $128
I got a phone call from Chris Kreisa who lives in Santa Monica California (90404) and is a working actor. He has, well had an original iPod. Yes, the type that is as big as two bars of Fels-Naptha soap from 2001.
The iPod had some problems and frankly at this age wasn't reliable. Th problem is the files on it were lectures and spiritual items that he couldn't find again so data recovery was the mission.
It was actually brought to me with an extra USB flash drive by his friend Jim Nagel who lives in Sebastopol. I had the device here for two days to get the files off.
Jim came by to pick up the iPod and drive and to send back to Chris.
Total cost to retrieve priceless files, just $50
