Leslie Burma is a previous client who lives in Napa California (94558). Last time she had smashed the LCD screen in her Macbook Pro and needed it replaced.
This time she hit me by email to discuss upgrades to the same laptop. The message was,
"Hi Again Frank;
I would like to upgrade my hard drive on my macbook. It is 3 years old, you replaced the screen. How much can I upgrade in Hard drive and Memory. Also, I would like to clean it up and put Garage Band back on. I removed the PC side already for more memory.
What are the costs for you to do this?

My reply included instructions on where she should shop for drive replacement and additional memory, with a recommendation on what to get as an upgrade.
A couple of weeks later she had all the parts and brought it over the hill to me.
The first thing I had to do was put Carbon Copy Cloner on her present hard drive, and then clone her old 120 Gb drive into a new bootable 500GB drive.
That cloning took 2 hours. Then I switched out the drive and installed the 4GB RAM memory into the laptop.
The Garage Band aspects was tricky... the approach I took was to up grade her OS from 10.5.8 to 10.6.5 and crossed my fingers that I had a version of iLife that would slide into her system giving her Garage Band.
After a 4 hour install of the OS, the version of iLife I had wouldn't load. The discs first examined the logic board to see if they had been delivered with it. When they figured out they hadn't the process stopped.
So.. she had a substantively better laptop and I recommended she go to the Apple Store and buy the newer iLife 11 upgrade for $49... dirt cheap for a whole toolset to manage your life. Which she thought was a terrific idea.
Total cost for my work on her laptop was $125 also a good value.
