Tamara Mady called me from Minneapolis, Minnesota
about her water immersed iPod. She's a student and has a limited amount of money and wanted to know more about my water cases. She didn't have any money at the time but wanted to know what she could do. I explained to her there is very little that can be done at her end and these things have a better chance of being repaired the sooner they arrive.
Because of her student status I suggested that she send her iPod into me and not worry about money. I would process the device and try to get it working but wouldn't reveal the result until she the $40 for the service. She liked the idea and sent it in.
I arrived on April 4th 2008 and I went to work on it. I was able to get all the parts except the hard drive, (even the battery and LCD). She got a hold of me 7 weeks later and was ready to pay for the service and needed parts if it was practical to repair. Then I let her know the result.
She sent in the $40 for labor and the $60 for the Hard Drive via PayPal
Fixed - Total cost..$100.

Crystal Olson called me at the end of May 2008 from Soquel, California.
Her boyfriend's 6th Generation 80GB iPod had gone through the washer and dryer as a part of laundry day. She sent it in with a check for $40 and hope that I could fix it.
After it arrived I was able to get it all working except for the LCd screen and there was a pile of corrosion on the battery contacts so that was replaced.
The LCD was $41 , the battery was $23 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $104.

Tim Leonard sent his 60GB 5th Generation video iPod from Napa, California.
He works at (and may be a principal) Del Dotto Vineyards there. He was having problems with his hard drive, call it general flakiness. Since his system was over two years old on a 3 year life expectancy I wasn't surprised.
The solution was to replace the drive and he chose to replace it with a 30GB version. No one will know the smaller more practical drive is housed in the larger case.
The drive was $60 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost..$100.
