Wayeal Zhou email me from Oakland, California
"I have an ipod that was washed in the washing machine around 4 weeks ago and i found your website but haven't had the time to email or call you until now. I need an iAmbulance because I can't drive and I will be gone for a week so I'll need instructions for somebody at home to follow."
I sent the iAmbulance. I'm about 100% positive he didn't think there was a chance in Heaven I would get it working ever again.
Remember the iAmbulance adds about 8 days to final delivery versus sending it in directly. His 6th Generation 160GB video iPod ultimately arrived and took it apart and started to clean up the water damage.
I was able to get the logic board and his hard drive to work. The battery (which probably needed replacing anyway) and LCD were a loss and had to be replaced.
The battery was $26 and the LCD was $41.
Labor/return shipping/iAmbulance was $40 so for
$107 he got his $370 iPod back and running with all of his files still on it.
Fixed - Total cost..$107.

Brett Valle called from San Francisco, California
about his 5th Gen video iPod. He was distressed that the Apple Genius had just erased his music while ultimately coming to the conclusion that they couldn't help him.
Brett and I continued through the process of diagnosing what was wrong and we landed on a failed logic board. It was failed in a specific way, the power input circuits would not recharge the battery. Because of his un-certainty on this he had brought it to a place to get the battery only replaced.
It arrived here the next day. What he didn't know was there was lead oxide corrosion on the front side of the logic board which you would only look at if you were really diligent. Someone replacing a battery would never consider that the battery was okay but the logic board wasn't charging it.
I replaced the logic board and sent it back to him the day it arrived.
His songs were lost, the logic board was $90 and labor/return shipping was $40.
His total time out of hand with his iPod may have been just
3 days which includes shipping both ways.
Fixed - Total cost $130.

Terresa Lauer found me on the internet and emailed me.
Her 5th Generation U2 video iPod had been dropped in salt water and wanted to
know the likelihood of it being made to work again. Frankly I've never had a
salt water case come back to life again.
She sent it ion from Soquel near Monterrey / Santa Cruz, California.
At the last moment she also threw into the package a Palm Zire 31 that
also had a lot of water spilled on it a year earlier.
Strangely I have experience repairing another Zire 31 that was sent
by a woman in South Carolina that needed data extracted from her Zire
that a broken LCD.
I took both of Terresa's devices apart and ran them through the steps
I use to restore iPods back to utility post-immersion. I wasn't able to
get either of them to work again.
This is both of them, I'm bummed this just doesn't happen to me often.
She got a $20 refund on each of them.
