Justin Labarthe called from Petaluma, California
to discuss his problem with his 5th Generation Video iPod. It was a fairly
well known problem, he could hear from the left ear only and the right ear
bud was dead.
This is caused by dropping the iPod with the ear buds plugged in and having
the plug hit the floor and it being driven far enough into the jack to destroy
the right side positive connection.
The replacement part cost $35 and the labor was $40. He was really happy
to find and Apple alternative.. they were pressing him to trade the device
in and pay another $225 plus tax to buy a new one.
Just $75 and he had his iPod back like new.
Fixed - Total cost..$75.

Richard Giovannoli called on Saturday morning from Sebastopol, California.
His daughter Maia's was visiting from Sacramento that day and 4th Generation 20GB Black and White iPod had a problem and he went on to describe it. As an ex-Macintosh/Apple IT fellow he was certain that the problem was a failed hard drive.
They went to lunch nearby and began to examine the patient. When the analysis was over her 20GB drive had to be replaced *and* I actually had one on hand that worked for her.
The drive was $20 and labor was $40.
She went home that day with her iPod working again.
Fixed - Total cost $60.

Jim Lummis sent 4th Gen Photo iPod in from Novato, California.
He's a fireman in Marin County and somehow left his iPod out and it was
rained on device basically worked but the compass point buttons on the
scroll wheel would make press and make selections.
He sent it in and decided to pay using PayPal.
I took it apart, cleaned and processed the corrosion out of it and was
able to get it and the compass point switches to work with no additional parts.
He sent in the $40 fee for labor and return shipping by PayPal
the next morning and it was on it's way back the day after it arrived.
Fixed - Total cost..$40.
