John Taylor sent in his Blue iPod Nano 2nd gen from Elkridge, Maryland.
This was a water exposure case and I was not able to get it to work completely. Here is a shot of the corrosion I discovered once I opened it.
Once I got through the work, here was the message I sent him,
"The device got here, the day before yesterday and I've had three sessions with it to try different approaches to it and have still found it to have three pretty serious problems
1) Data connectivity - the device will not stay running and connected to iTunes so I can't update what's on it
2) Scroll wheel control - I've tested the scroll wheel and I know it to work on another 2nd Gen iPod, but it doesn't work on the Rachael iPod so we have a bad data port for the scroll wheel
3) The LCD does has data painted to it, but he back light won't come on. I've tried a new LCD in it with the same result so the LCD connection (which had corrosion when it arrived) can't be made to work.
Yours is a case where I will not be able to get it working again and you will get a $25 ($20 plus the $5 priority mail) refund
And I find myself in still the more awkward place of being the surgeon that was un-able to save a life and now wanting to discuss organ donation. The scroll wheel and housing work, I've tried them on another known good system. That part could benefit someone that has a water damaged 2nd Gen in the future. Would you consider selling me her parts for the $20 I would keep? If so I can send your check back, or destroy it here.
If not, I'll put it back together and send it back with a $25 refund"
John was kind enough to see the wisdom of organ donation and consented to sell me
the iPod for parts. I sent his check back.

David Arguello sent his iPod 3rd Gen Nano in from Mc Falland, California.
In a standard refrain I am hearing about these, "it went through the washer".
I was able to get his 8GB model working perfectly with no added parts. A day after it arrived, I had it working and it was sent back.
Fixed - Total cost $40.
