Bob Klase called me from Ft Bragg, North Carolina
about his iPod Mini. He wasn't exactly sure of the problem but was willing to send it to me if I actually answered the phone and was able to talk with him about it. Many people in the "iPod Repair business" seem to use an answering machine or service to screen calls and return them. I am the rare case of the fellow you get personally on the phone by usually the second ring (unless I am out running errand or at the gym and you will still get a call back instantly when I get back).

His problem wasn't completely clear as we talked through it so he sent in with a check for $40 for the analysis/labor. When it got here I was able to determine that it needed a replacement drive and a new battery.

I always try to make sure the repair is in line with what the iPod is worth when fixed so I priced the drive for at $10 and the battery was also $10. He used PayPal to send in the $20

He got back his Mini working for $60

Fixed - Total cost $60.

Kenia Aceves emailed me on July 2nd 2008 from not far from here in Calistoga, California
She had put Nano 3rd Gen through the washing machine. She requested I send an iAmbulance for her iPod. I usually wouldn't proceed with an iAmbulance for a water immersion case because it adds 11 days to ultimate delivery but because she was so near I didn't think it was a large obstacle in success.

What I didn't count on was how long she would take before getting it back in the mail and sending it to me. It finally arrived on September 8th 2008 over two months later.

Usually that delay would take away all possibility of success for a water/washing machine case but I was able to actually get all aspects of the iPod working again. I typically recommend that the iPod get here in less than 3 weeks. I was able get her LCD, the battery, memory, and battery recharge circuits all working again.

Fixed - Total cost $40.

Michael Coffey called me from Norwalk, Connecticut.
He has 4th Generation Photo iPod with a 60GB drive that wasn't working. As he went on to describe it, the problem sounded more like a drive failure but I wasn't clear . He sent it in and sent the $40 by PayPal to cover the initial costs.

It got here and in fact it was the hard drive that had stopped working all together. I've mentioned it's important that I price repairs so the total is in keeping with the value of the iPod. The Photo uses a 44 pin IDE connection and drives that are working of that type are becoming rare.

I had a working 60GB 44 pin IDE drive so I made it available to him for $35. This would keep the repair in line with the value of the working iPod. He sent the $35 by PayPal and the finished iPod was sent back the next day.

$35 for the drive and $40 labor/return shipping

Fixed - Total cost $75.
