Arann Harris called me from Petaluma, California
about 12 miles south of here and the town I was born in. He has a 4th Gen model with a
20GB drive and it seriously sounded like a failing drive. He sent it up and the drive
was toast.
If you've read my site in any detail, you know I hold that model in pretty low regard
but I did have a working drive of that type.
Rather deal with a lot of future warranty issues I merely replaced the 20GB drive at
no charge to him. This is a rare gratis case for parts because of what was going on
with him, his proximity and needs.
Total cost to get his 4th Gen up and running was $40
Fixed - Total cost $40.

Peter Carter called me from Oyster Bay, New York.
He had a 4th Gen 20GB model that seemed to have a failing logic board. He sent it in with a check for $60 to cover the costs.
In fact it was the logic board and once replaced things worked correctly again.
The part was $20 and labor return shipping back was $40
Fixed - Total cost $60.

Leanna Kroeger lives here in Santa Rosa, California.
She found me on the internet and on September 7th 2008 called to find out about replacing the LCD in her 5th Gen video iPod.
She got here a bit after noon and I gave her and her boyfriend training on how to Limewire effectively. They were sheepish discussing peer-to-peer file sharing but I assured them I knew how to use these effectively. Since she is a Mac user Limewire was the p2p choice for her. The Limewire problem for her was 'loss of files' once added to iTunes. The problem really is that Apple by default leads users down a path that helps them loose music/video with the chance they may need to bought once missing. iTunes the program merely sets a data pointer out to file that had been "added" instead of copying it into the iTunes music Library itself so it would remain permanently a part of the Library.
I gave them instruction on how to tweak things and then showed them how to use their iPod as a protable external hard drive to take and add music to other friends iTunes Libraries permanently.
The LCD was $33 and labor for the repair was $40
Fixed - Total cost $73.
