Victoria Davis sent an email from Alexandria, Virginia
that read,
"Dear Mr. Walburg,
I'm sure you've heard tons of immersion stories. So here's one more. My Nano fell out of my pocket while exiting the car today. To be honest,I didn't know it had fallen out. It was raining heavily and I rushed out of the car.
About 30 minutes passed and I was digging through my pockets when I discovered that the Nano was not there. I walked back to my car and saw it floating perilously at the edge of a storm drain. My earphones had snagged on a piece of broken concrete, saving the unit from a watery grave.
Considering the time it was exposed to water, I am unsure if there was any permanent damage to it. Unfortunately, I do not live in California. Virginia to be exact. My friend hear about you and I decided to contact you.

The iPod arrived a few days later and I was able to get to work except for the
LCD screen which was replaced. The parts $33 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $73.

Amanda Parker sent in her Nano 3rd Generation from Cape Coral, Florida.
She had dropped her iPod in water and it stopped soon after.
It arrived with $40 and that was all it took, I was able to get it all
working with no additional parts needed.

She had a problem with her iPod Nano 1st Generation. Many people know I have a low regard for that particular iPod. It exhibits less thinking and genuine engineering than Apple typically places in any of their products.
I ran a data extraction and then parked the files on her iPod for her, then sent the instructions back to her.
She also needed advice on how to draw the chapters of the books on tape (really books on CD in her case) together so they would play consecutively regardless of how many books she had added to iTunes Library. This is what I sent back in response,
"I have your letter with the additional questions,
The question about how to index the tracks that arrive.... the books on tape, really books on CD were created in the pre-iPod, pre-mp3 world. One a music CD each track (song) has a unique global identifier number that allows all music to isolate and identify the song uniquely and specifically. Since each chapter of a book isn't a song, the books on CD have never had go through the steps of making these identifiers.
If this were my problem... I would import the CD the way you do then . When finished I would click on the date header in the iTunes 'music' Library so everything that came on "that day" was at the top.
Then I would create a playlist and give it the book title. I would populate the play list by dragging each 'track' (really a chapter) over to the playlist in their chapter order.
Then copy the playlist to the iPod by dragging it up to the iPod. Once there I would use the playlist selection menu to actually "play" the book."
Her repair cost her $40 and I sent back at no added charge a new
USB data cable because I think hers is what started her problems.
Fixed - Total cost $40.

a few months ago about her Mini iPod and the trouble she was having with the clickwheel. I was able to counsel her on how to fix it right there at her house so she didn't even have to send it in.
On September 3rd 2008 she got a hold of me again. This she needed the battery in her iPod replaced and sent it in. She sent $50 by PayPal the day she sent it.
It arrived here 4 days later. I replaced the battery and sent it back to her the
same day. The battery was $10 and labor/return shipping was $40.
Fixed - Total cost $50.
