Karl Behnmen sent me a message one morning from Marion, Illinois.
His message read,

"My wife dropped her new nano in the swimming pool...only in for a few seconds but.....powers up but that is all...please advise..."

I send a message back outlining my recent water immersion success rate at Nano 3rd gen (7 out of 8 brought back to life). He sent it in.

I was able to get his working ultimately but it took replacing the LCD since I wasn't able to get the backlight on his LCD to work.

He paid $40 labor/return shipping and $33 for the LCD.

Fixed - Total cost $40.

John Baker originally moved down to Sonoma County from Toronto, Canada.
Along with his brother and an investor that remains in Canada they bought what used to be know as the Davis-Bynum Winery on Westside Road in Healdsburg. Mr. Davis sold the "Davis-Bynum" name to the Rodney Strong winery for about 2.4 million when they found themselves over-extended in family salaries relative to earnings and the family members less interested in the wine business. At that point Davis began selling wine under the "River Bend" name. Rodney Strong was always clear that they wanted the premium Pinot brand name so they could bring up the case quantity and make a little money. This year is the first year that Rodney strong will be selling Pinot they have made under the Davis-Bynum name. They have moved the case count up from 12,000 to 28,000 so they will probably make a lot of money.

John and his other owners have changed the name to "Westside Winery". They aren't too attached to the name but it has some significance since it is on Westside road in the Dry Creek Valley.

John's iPod would not turn on. As he and I discussed it, that facts seemed to point to a cooked logic board from a failed car adapter. The iPod wouldn't turn using it's battery and it wouldn't turn on using a wall adapter to jump start it.

To get the music files off of it, I moved the hard drive to another working system that would recognize the drive and then ran the data extraction.

I moved the files to John's external hard drive and labeled them add_to_library so he could follow the directions I have at the bottom of left side navigation on my site to add them back to any Windows or Mac iTunes Library permanently.

Fixed - Total cost $40.

Clif Gobles emailed me from Ketchum, Idaho
to discuss his iPod and what had been going on with Apple. He said that Apple had quoted him $150 to repair his 5th Gen iPod (whatever the problem) and they spent no time trying to determine what the problem was and charge him according to what was required. This is a bit like brining your car into a manufacturer's car lot and having to 60% of the price you paid new to get any aspect of the car repaired though it's already a couple of years old.

He found me on the internet and I was fairly convinced the problem was the hard drive. In charging $40 up front I establish an affordable way for people to come to some understanding about what the problem is.

He sent it in and it proved to be the drive after all. The part was $60 and the labor/return shipping was $40.

Fixed - Total cost $100.
