Jeff Davis called me from Sonoma, California
where he and his wife live. He has a 5th Generation video iPod and and wanted to know what
was involved in replacing the LCD. I ran down the process and gave him instructions on how to get here from his home. He works in the bio-medical field and uses his iPod in a docking station at work but needs the LCD to see where he is on the menu.
He arrived with the Steve Martin biography and hung out on my patio here while I went to work on his iPod.
The LCD was $33 and labor was $40. He found me by chance on the internet after hearing at the Apple store downtown that his choice basically getting a new iPod.
Fixed - Total cost $73.

Keith Thompson works in the IT department at our local Sutter Health facility.
He lives in central Healdsburg, California and his daughter's iPod had multiple difficulties. Her video iPod had hearing from one side only, which I fix all the time and a cracked LCD screen (which I also fix all the time). Plus the faceplate on her iPod was trashed.
I replaced the LCD and headphone wire harness but I was concerned that she wouldn't treat the iPod any better if the scratched faceplate wasn't replaced. Pride of ownership is an important quality to a device like an iPod in the hands of a teenager, so I replaced the faceplate too at no charge because I wanted her to enjoy ownership and utility of her iPod again.
The LCD was $33 and the headphone jack set was $28, with labor being $40. This is a happy Keith.
Fixed - Total cost $101.

Tim Fleming sent in his iPod Mini from San Anselmo, California.
He called saying he had lost all hearing in his iPod but everything else about was working fine. This was the first time I had heard of the headphone module failing in a Mini but told him I wanted to get it back working for him so he didn't have to spend to get a new one. I actually offered the part to him for free if he paid the $40 labor rate.
The iPod arrived 2 days later, iI took it apart and the headphone module was shot.
Replacing made the difference and I found I had recovered hearing in both ears,
It works perfectly now and the total cost was $40
Fixed - Total cost $40.
