Here is a heartbreaking story, in so many ways.
This is her not fixed iPod.
Megan Ching lives in Vallejo, California and emailed about her 4th Gen Black and White 20GB iPod on morning saying,
"Unfortunately, my 4th generation iPod was sent through the washer. To make things worse,in a panic, I tried to turn it on, and plugged it into a charger repeatedly. I live in Northern California, but I don't know when I will have the opportunity to stop by. Do you think that you would be able to repair it when I find the time to visit, or will it be too late?
Thank you,
Megan"
I emailed saying it probably not too late, and she actually set up stopping by on a Saturday a but somehow didn't make the appointment. Her parents brought it by on Monday morning though.
I was able to get it cleaned up and replaced the battery but when to turn it on, I got the starry eyed sad face error. Her hard drive has a problem, as many of this vintage do or are about to.
Read more the drive problem here:
http://www.isickbay.com/4th_gen_20gb_ipod_problem.shtml
I sent her a suggestion about how to replace it here:
http://www.isickbay.com/how_to_buy_new.shtml
I was never able to get it working again so I removed the new battery and her iPod back with a $35 cash refund of the $55 her parents had left when they stopped by to drop it off.
This un-happy water exposure result cost her $20 but she now knows it was never really going to be work or be useful and can move on to buying a new one.
This is here parents as they dropped it off.

Torian Giddings called me from Neptune, New Jersey
Before
After
to tell me about his 5th Generation white 30GB video iPod. It has a cracked screen and he wanted to make sure I was real the business was on the up and up before sending it all the way across country to be repaired.
He mailed it using Priority mail and it took over a week to actually arrive here in California. He actually freaked out over the delay in it's arrival and called a couple of times just to check. It arrived on Monday October 27th after being sent on October 21st. I repaired within the hour of it's arrival and resent it back out to him that afternoon. I had to put his mind at rest.
The LCD was $33 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $73.

Dr Connie Moreland called me from Chicago, Illinois
Before
After
about the cracked screen on her 5th Gen video ipod. It's a part of her life.
She keeps important memories in the photos on it and videos and music that carry
her through the day. She was particularly pleased that she would be her own iPod
back once it was repaired. Apple send back out pre-repaired units and wipes the hard
drive so you get a blank drive and basically have to prove you have a right to the music
and videos by syncing them off of your computer again (if your computer still has the
files and works correctly).
I had her iPod finished and sent back to her the same afternoon.
Fixed - Total cost $73.
