Craig Sparrazza emailed me from Chandler, Arizona
wondering about his 5th Generation video iPod. For some reason he didn't make clear the iPod had opened and didn't 'go back' together in a usefully working way. Through email I was able to discern that one part had broken and two other parts went missing. I told him to send it in with $40 and I could figure out what is needed.
It arrived on Monday October 27th and I was able to put together the missing parts and make it work once it had a new battery.
The battery was $23 and labor/return shipping was $40. There was no charge for
the small parts, I just wanted to get his device working again for him.
Fixed - Total cost $63.

Manny Nieto called me after finding my website from Aurora, Colorado
(near Littleton) on October 22nd 2008 to discuss his 6th Generation 160GB video iPod. The screen was now just WHITE with no data painting to it. This is a rare occurrence but sometimes one of the traces that delivers the data to the LCD fails for no obvious reason. Naturally his iPod was maybe.... a week out of warranty and he wanted to figure out what the problem might be.
I explained the LCD would need to be replaced and he was basically good with it. I sent him instructions after we got off the phone about to send it in and pay for it.
He used PayPal to send the funds in and the iPod arrived on October 27th. I had the repair finished that afternoon and the iPod was on the way back to him the next morning on October 28th 2008.
The LCD was $41 and labor/return shipping was $40.
MOST CRITICAL was his 14,310 songs went back to him intact. He had a perfectly working
iPod with all of his files, again if Apple had "repaired" his system he would gotten an empty, scrubbed hard drive back *and* would have over twice as much.
Fixed - Total cost $81.

Ray Sackett found my website and called from Novi, Michigan.
His daughter's white 5th Generation video iPod went through the washer and he wanted to see if I could bring it back to life. He used PayPal to send payment and I received the iPod a few days later.
I was able to gat all the aspects of the iPod to work EXCEPT the scroll wheel and compass point switches. I know the area of the logic board these are controlled through and could find nothing wrong there. Then I changed the scroll wheel twice not believing it would make a difference but just to be thorough.
Ultimately there were times when the scroll and switches would work but not consistently and after 4 hours I gave up on it and sent Ray an email explaining the circumstances.
I sent the device back the next day in it's kind of working state, notice I have used the scroll wheel to navigate down the menu options and then able to choose "settings" and then choose "about" to show the screen below.
His cost was $20
Fixed - Total cost $20.
