Cole Stanford's father Peter reached me by phone on April 17th 2008 from Castro Valley, California.
His son's iPod had been exposed to water and wouldn't work. They were going to drive up on Saturday and drop it off. Then their son got the idea that somehow water exposure/immersion would be covered under the 12 month Apple warranty and he sent this message, "Frank -- my apologies ... after I spoke with you, my son told me that that he thought his Ipod was still under warranty ... which it is until July 2008. As such, I need to check out the warranty coverage and, if applicable send it into Apple for repair ... if in fact the damage repair is not covered by the warranty, then we will be in touch for your services."
Water exposure constitutes abuse and voids the Apple warranty. Many things void the Apple warranty.
They went through the steps found out what I had mentioned, that the warranty was void due to water exposure. The iPod arrived here on May 3rd 2008.
I was able to get the thing working even though a considerable time had passed. It did need two parts, a hard drive and the hard drive ribbon connector. Both had become badly corroded because of the elapsed time.
The parts were $65 and labor/return shipping was $40. They used PayPal to send in the funds and it was sent back fixed the next business day.
Fixed - Total cost $105.

Christian Rodriguez showed up here in Santa Rosa
with his dad and his friend Isac Reyes on a Sunday evening at 5:45 while I was working in the garden. He lives over on Dutton Ave about 15 long blocks away. The LCD in his video iPod was cracked and he wanted to get it replaced.
I told I needed 45 minutes and to come back by at 6:30. They actually came back by at 7PM instead.
Here he is with it fixed.
Fixed - Total cost $73.
