Stephen Rechtman called me from Boynton Beach, Florida
shortly after he rook his iPod out of the washer. It had gone unnoticed through the entire wash cycle and was FILLED with water. Like many others he wondered if it had any hope but I told him to send it in with $40
It got here on Friday the 21st December 2008 and by 8PM that night I had it working again. You can see what I mean about filled with water. It needed a new LCD screen and a new battery but all the files on it were safe too.
The LCD was $41, the battery was $19 and labor was $40 so the total was $100 to get it back working.
He sent me a message when he heard the result.
"Frank, you are amazing!!
I've just sent you the $60 via PayPal. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to hear this good news. I thought for sure that once the iPod came out of the washing machine, it was toast. $60, on top of the original $40 is totally worth it to have my "baby" up and running again.
I appreciate the work, and I can't wait to get it back.
Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Steve Rechtman"
Fixed - Total cost $100.

Michael Coursey is an international lawyer that called me from Washington DC.
He has a 5th Gen video iPod that had a water exposure problem and wanted to know that I was real and what to do to send it in.
His iPod had a failed logic board which at that moment put it in the not practical to repair column. I sent
it back to him with a $31 cash refund on the $51 he sent and called him at home to let him know the
result and how to buy a new one with a 12 month warranty from Apple for $169

John Merz called me from Janesville, Wisconsin about his Silver Nano 3rd Gen.
He had it in his gym bag and water leaked on it. It seemed to kind of still work except for the scroll wheel and compass point buttons. I gave him the instructions to send it in and it arrived several days later on Friday December 21st 2008.
Over the weekend (yes I work on weekends for people) I was able to take it apart and analyze things. There was some corrosion and battery oddities but the jack and ribbon connection for the scroll wheel looked good. He had pressed the select button so firmly so many times there was no travel for the button any more. I swapped out the scroll and faceplate (they need to be replaced together) and was able to get all functionality back again. I called him and gave the choice of a Blue or Green faceplate and he chose Blue.
The scroll assembly was $15 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $55.
