I got an email for Terry Pargmann who lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana
that read,
"Hi:
Found your web site !!
My 13 year old decided to wash her I-pod last week with her clothes. We have
had it in a sealed container of Rice for about a week with no luck. Here is
the strange part--we can plug it into the Docking Station and hook it up to
the computer, it actually lights up with the Apple logo, then briefly go to
the menu, then just a dim glow stays on..
Can you help us ?
Thanks
Terry"
I sent the instructions along once I knew we had an iPod that could be effectively repaired. Remember there are some models I won't accept for repair because they have been so poorly engineered by Apple and the repairs on them are not permanent or enduring enough enough to justify the time and material expense of fix ing them. These are chiefly all 4th Gen models that have any type of drive problem and the 1st Gen Nano models.
Terry has a 3rd Gen Nano and that I have a lot of experience with and am able to fix 7 out of 8 of them that have water immersed.
His iPod arrived on Friday December 21st 2008 and I was able to get it working working again by Sunday the 22nd with no additional parts.
On December 28th after his iPod had arrived back to him, at 5:26am pacific time I got this message from Terry
"Again thanks !
Terry"
Fixed - Total cost $40.

Michael Lane called me from Jacksonville, Florida
about his iPod that had been dropped in sweet tea on December 10th 2008. Like many people he succumbed to temptation to see if happened to actually work still. I'll quote the letter that arrived with iPod now.
"It continued to function properly for the next few minutes immediately afterward before shutting down completely. Over the next 2 days it regained much of its functionality. The 'original' Apple logo would appear and then with a button press would return to the main menu screen Sometimes it will briefly progress to another screen, but will always revert to to the main screen and stay there. Sometimes it play partially through a song and then reset."
He continued for the next several days to try different things.. connecting it to his computer and trying a restore. Then a variety of other things. The problem with all of this is the problem of a slurry water based fluid inside his iPod was never addressed. There was ZERO chance his efforts would make a difference without opening it up and dealing directly with the problem. Even if by some chance it seemed to work again... the water based problems would re-surface again and kill the device.
I wasn't able to make a difference either by the time it arrived. Both the scroll wheel and the logic board had problems and replacing both of them is the equivalent of buying a new which is what I told him in email back.
I sent back his iPod with a $20 refund.

Sharon Thompson found me on the internet and gave me a call from Hamilton, Illinois
about her son John's 4th Gen Nano video iPod that had gone through the washer. She had read a couple of the stories on George my cat who returned home after 13 1/2 years because of the micro-chip we implanted when he was a kitten 17 years earlier.
I assured her I knew about water cases though I had some earnest doubts about my abilities at the new 4th Gen Nano because Apple had made it so unbelievably difficult to get into it.
The iPod arrived a few days later and I patiently worked my way into the problem. Remember... the first rule for any doc is "do no harm". I made way in and was able to get the iPod working again perfectly. Her son John like me is a big Breaking Benjamin fan.
The total cost to get the 8GB $200 Nano working again was just $40
When she got the message of my success she sent back a message moments later that read,
"Hi Frank,
God bless you, bless you, bless you! My son will be so happy--as am I! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Sharon"
Fixed - Total cost $40.
